I have finished the garter stitch throw I knitted for the black leather couch. I knitted it on 8mm bamboo needles (purchased in Picton NZ), 160 st, I used 7 balls of burgundy coloured mohair (purchased from the Nundle Wool Mill a couple of weeks ago when Miff [my gorgeous other half] and I went for a drive ) straight out of the seconds bin, so the colours weren't always quite the same. To this I added five balls of Rare Yarns essentials alpaca, mohair and superfine merino in misty grape out of my stash but purchased from Danielle at the LYS. I love the Rare Yarns especially the essential one just mentioned. Yum!! I knitted the throw in alternating stripes and I think it looks OK. It is now artfully positioned on the couch and when Miff takes a photo for me I will post it. I think it looks far nicer than the All Blacks blanket Miff bought back from NZ for me last year!!
When I bought the yarn from Nundle I became quite obsessed with knitting this throw and worked on it at every opportunity in the last two weeks. I don't really know why I was so intent on finishing it because it was really boring to knit. Almost 170 cm of garter stitch groan. It was very mindless.
Now that the blanket is done I have to finish the lavender cardigan with lace borders for the gorgeous grand baby Oliwka and ship that off to Auckland with some other bits and pieces. I just have one sleeve, the neck and sewing up plus buttons. Some nice purl buttons I think. Although really it is up to Miff as he is in charge of the buttons for Oliwka's outfits. It is for a 6 month old and Oliwka is only 1 month old, I have a bit of grace left!
I also have some 14 ply dark red slippers that I am knitting for my MIL's birthday at the end of February. She gets cold feet so what better than some nice warm slippers. And it tends to be cold and a tad wet where she lives. One slipper is completed and has been for some time, I have been suffering the one sock hoo doo just a bit. But that is soon to be over. Funnily enough I am using the very old but very trusty pattern to knit MIL's slippers that my granny used for years. Still I need to get this slipper finished asap because we are off to the Barossa Valley for a short holiday and some serious wine tasting in 2 weeks!! If I don't finish it and get it in the post to NZ before I go it will miss the MIL's birthday.
I am starting to feel a bit guilty that I haven't done much work on Miffs Cardigan so I will make a concerted effort to get stuck into that in the next week or two or three......If you are reading this Miff, I promise xx :)
